The Universal Forum of Cultures Naples comes alive and does so with the music and sounds from all over the world. After the preview dedicated to the myths and legends of the Neapolitan spring, the Forum of Naples has defined its program, which will run throughout the city until the end of October and will include meetings, dialogues, international conferences, exhibitions and events . It will be presented in detail to the press July 18 at the headquarters of the Pan in Via dei Mille.
To kick off the event will be the concerts of “Dock of Sounds” at the Rotonda Diaz, with July and August dedicated to moments of fun and entertainment, but built on a careful and musical journey that will have as a location on the seafront, with its arena pool, and a calendar of concerts starting July 18 and includes appointments until mid-August.
They are all free concerts, set up mostly with standing, but on some occasions with an audience full of seats.
The exhibition is curated by Gigi De Rienzo, one of the most sensitive musicians of the Neapolitan scene, bassist class who has worked both as an instrumentalist and as arranger with many of the protagonists of Italian music scene in the eighties to today. His idea was to transform a place now classic Neapolitan music, the Rotonda Diaz, in a culmination of sounds, a small port where sounds come away and mingle with those of some of the most significant music artists neapolitan , who were able to innovate the Neapolitan tradition merging with the musical cultures from around the world.

The first meeting is scheduled for July 18 with Enzo Gragnaniello and Spanish musician El Cigala, one of the leading interpreters of flamenco.
After them, on July 21, will perform on stage at the sea the Grammy Award-winning Angelique Kidjo, who arrives in Italy with her album “Eve.” Born in Benin, an activist for the rights of women in Africa, Kidjo is engaged at this time in the campaign against polio.
It will be in Naples Monday, July 21 at 21.00, with an evening that promises to be of great emotion.
The next day (Tuesday, July 22 at 21:00 always) will be the turn of GoranBregović with his Wedding and Funeral Band. Composer and multi-faceted artist Bregović has a special relationship with Naples, the city where he lived with his family in the seventies. Became famous for the captivating film soundtracks of Kusturica, today is one of the protagonists of ethnic music and research in Europe.
It will, instead, a tribute to the city to one of its most beloved artists the appointment of 23 July: stage 21 to Peppe Barra who will celebrate his seventy years on stage in fact, a life devoted to theater, music and tradition Naples.
On July 24, returns after years in Naples Youssou N’Dour, Senegalese artist of renown, the creator of a genre of music called mbalax which combines the percussion used in the songs of prayer and the Afro Cuban sounds. His captivating rhythms of the waterfront will stage a dance, also due to the presence in the audience of the large Senegalese community that lives in Campania and Naples that will listen to and follow their leader and artist. Today Youssou N’Dour is in fact also a politician since 2012 Minister of Culture of the Government of Senegal chaired by Macky Sall. The concert will be preceded by the Neapolitan artist John Block.
On July 25, the concert will be the turn of Daniele Sepe and his International Brigade and Mediterranean Soul, a wild Sicilian ensemble, which mixes the singing tradition of the island with a vast collection of Mediterranean sounds. In August, the program will continue with a series of other events that players will see many Neapolitan artists that will perform well together with international artists.
The last appointment of the first week of July 26th with music is an Italian composer and artist.
“We opted for the concerts of the Forum all artists who through their music embody the ability to communicate with each other, from their roots artists who know how to speak to the contemporary and know how to look to the future” explains curator Gigi De Rienzo.
