A highly evocative journey into the dark belly of Naples. Is the one organized by the Focus Art Napoli for Saturday, October 18, starting at 11 am, in the cavities of Piazza Cavour, authentic soul of Neapolis rebuilding, synthesizing, all the different realities of the “underground” of Partenope. A boundary between the Sanità district and the ancient city, the real “hidden cave” is a complex yet to be discovered, extremely interesting for the confluence of the three aqueducts of the city: Carmignano, Bolla and Serino drawing an articulated complex of tunnels connecting, in which is contained the story of the Siren in an exemplary manner. In the cavity of Piazza Cavour stand the ancient greek-roman era tanks, repurposed as a refuge during the terrible years of the Second World War. A set that is also a perfect synthesis of the various modes funeral that have occurred over the centuries, in the other part of Partenope, the so-called “dark city”.
The site, over the years, has found new dignity as a museum environment in which salt has been designed to work reset, rich in relics and monuments of: from “riggiole” of the fifteenth century to everything that bears the marks of World War II. And again, from oil lamps to the ancient pickaxes and tools used by the quarrymen Neapolitans, from weapons of World War I, the ampoules and medical instrumentation found in an old pharmacy in the center of the city.
The Museum of the Underground, also has a special section where they reconstructed the ancient tombs and funeral arrangements from the ancient Greeks up to the seventeenth century the city of Naples. Inside the cavity there is also a small wine bar, a sort of “Thermopolium Parthenopaeus” where, who wants to, can taste the local wine par excellence: Lacryma Christi Doc, with various snacks, and continue the description of the subsoil of Naples, by a contemporary Greek city, with its double soul, underworld and sun.
