After the successful first edition of Pompeii Festival returns to the big Opera Grand Theatre of Pompeii, to give a rich program of events for next summer. The season opens Wednesday, May 27 with the last day of Pompeii, an opera in three acts by Giovanni Pacini, with libretto by Andrea Leone Tottola that tells the story of unrequited love in a web of deception and tragedy, which puts end just the eruption of Vesuvius and its lava.
The work premiered at the Teatro San Carlo in Naples in 1825, and is part of the series of works of art related to luck literary, musical and artistic rediscovery of the buried city has raised from 1748 until today. Under the able musical direction of Maestro Alberto Veronesi’s work it is inserted within the events that frame the exhibition “Pompeii and Europe, Nature and History 1748-1943”.
Among the performers, the singer in the role of Macedonian Blagoj Nakoski Appio Diomede, who these days is engaged at La Scala, and the role of Octavia, Ianos Tamar, already protagonist of the work in the second half of 1996 will instead Sallustio Giuseppe Esposito, low Rossini’s longtime baritone. The son Menenio, en disguised role, will be played by Adriana Iozzia, and the High Priest of the Temple of Jupiter by Massimiliano Catellani, the keeper of the Terme Publius by Giorgio Trucco and coordination of scenes and lighting, as well as the direction is headed by Stefano . Costa. The choir and orchestra of the Pompei Festival, their debut musical, will be directed by Music Director Maestro Alberto Veronesi.
