Living Nativity of Scafati, is boom of visitors

Record numbers for the 2013 edition of the Living Nativity Scafati (Salerno). More than 15 thousand people, from every corner of the region, visited the sacred representation organized in the streets of the Quarter Vetrai by the “volunteers” from the parish community of St. Maria delle Vergini ( directed by Don Giovanni De Riggi), with the contribution of municipal administration. All in a row, from Friday 27 to Sunday, December 29, to admire the picturesque scenery set among courtyards and gates of the old town processed for the occurrence, in a novella Bethlehem.

For three days, the quaint alleys of the old town have worn the colors of the most traditional festivals: one hundred and seventy extras dressed in period costumes hand-packed, animated the scene of the Nativity, offering free tastings of local products to visitors: chestnuts, dried fruit, bread, cheese, cakes and other delicacies of the Terra Felix.

All perfectly play the role , the “set” of Painters: washerwomen, peasants, Roman soldiers, innkeepers, carpenters, butchers and bakers. But even reworkings typical of the Nativity in Eastern version, with a reproduction of the court of Herod the king portrayed in all its magnificent splendor.
In the background, a few steps from the cave of the manger, with Mary and Joseph who cuddled the newborn baby Jesus, the melodies of the choir of the parish of St. Maria delle Vergini directed by the teacher Pompilia Balzano.
